Therapeutic Plasma Exchange
An exciting high-level blood filtration technique
Therapeutic Plasma Exchange (TPE), also known as Therapeutic Plasmaphereis has been a powerful tool for treatment of critically-ill patients in hospital settings, for many years. Now the same technology is available to you in an outpatient setting, at Lifespan Health.
TPE is currently being studied for a wide variety of potential benefits, including removal of inflammatory mediators, chemicals, plastics, cellular waste, immune complexes, and other unwanted plasma-based toxins.
Detoxification
Improve health parameters by
decreasing your toxic burden
Lifespan Health is offering this advanced therapy to those who are experiencing chronic inflammation, environmental toxicities, and long-term effects of infectious syndromes--as well as to clients who want to take a proactive approach to wellness and health optimization

The Process
Therapeutic Plasmapheresis is the cornerstone therapy of comprehensive protocols designed to meet your unique health needs and goals.

Each protocol follows a logical, collaborative, diagnostic and treatment framework:

1. ASSESSMENT

Includes a comprehensive medical history review, physical examination, evaluation of blood biomarkers, measurements of toxins. Then we make specific treatment recommendations, assuring that the plan aligns with your expectations.

2. THERAPEUTIC PLASMA EXCHANGE (TPE)

One or more monthly sessions

3. NUTRIENT SUPPORTUtilizing a combination of oral and IV nutrients, specifically designed to augment your TPE procedures, and achieve the very best results.

4. RETEST Compare post-treatment toxin levels and biomarkers with the pre-treatment results.
The Protocols
Each of the Lifespan Health Plasma Exchange protocols are developed by and overseen by Dr. Mark Rawson. The procedure is performed by highly-trained RNs in a comfortable clinic setting.

Blood is removed
After a complete medical evaluation and a detailed explanation of the procedure, you get comfortable in our plasma exhange suite.

In a continuous process, blood is withdrawn...

Blood components
are separated
By a complex centrifuge process, plasma is separated from the other blood components.

The plasma contains numerous toxic substances that will be eliminated from your body.

Blood + Replacement
Solution is reinfused
By a complex centrifuge process, plasma is separated from the other blood components.

The plasma contains numerous toxic substances that will be eliminated from your body.
Plasma (with toxins)
is discarded
This plasma is automatically separated into bags, and prepared for disposal.

Questions & Answers
Is Plasma Exchange covered by insurance?
Unfortunately, plasma exchange procedures are not covered by most health insurance carriers. We are happy to provide you with a superbill to submit for reimbursement, if you would like to try.
Does Lifespan offer financing for TPE procedures and packages?
Yes, we offer financing options: 1. You may pay 50% of the cost initially, and then the remaining balance over a 90-day period. 2. You may utilize one of our 3rd-party financing partner programs.
Are Plasma Exchange, Plasmapheresis and Apheressis the same thing?
While all three involve removing and separating blood, there are key differences: Aphersis refers to procedure where blood is removed and separated into components, with one or more components removed. Plasmapheresi refers to small volume plasma removal, without returning replacement fluid (e.g. plasma donation) Plasma Exchange refers to the large volume plasma removal, followed by replacement of of a fresh plasma substitue fluid (albumin + saline).
How long does a plasma exchange treatment take?
The plasma exchange treatment itself takes about 90 minutes. However, allow for 3-4 hours to accomadate intake activity, vascular access and post-treatment observation.
